They’re also working on Omniverse DSX software for simulating gigawatt-scale datacenters and grid-flexible power management with startup Emerald AI to handle AI’s spiky power consumption patterns that challenge grid operators.

Here’s the thing that really stands out: we’ve gone from racking servers like stacking books to dealing with what are essentially mini supercomputers that need their own power plants. The numbers are staggering – 140kW today, 600kW by 2027. That’s not incremental growth, that’s a complete phase change in what we consider a “server rack.” And Sharp’s point about silicon innovation being “hampered by the permanence of concrete” is painfully accurate. You can design the most amazing chip in the world, but if the building can’t physically support it, what’s the point?
