Venture Capital Backs Longevity Innovation
Generation Lab, a startup focused on personalized epigenetic testing, has reportedly raised $11 million in seed funding according to sources familiar with the matter. The round was led by Silicon Valley venture firm Accel, representing their first investment in the longevity sector, with participation from Samsung Next and several celebrity-backed investment vehicles.

Intergenerational Founding Team
The company was founded in 2023 by an intergenerational team spanning three age groups, according to company statements. Dr. Irina Conboy, recognized in academic circles for her decades of cell regeneration research and sometimes called the “mother of longevity,” represents the Baby Boomer generation. Michael Suswal, a millennial entrepreneur whose previous company Standard AI achieved unicorn status, and Alina Su, a Gen Z CEO who pursued Conboy while still an undergraduate at Berkeley, complete the founding trio.
Analysts suggest this diverse leadership reflects the company‘s mission to serve what they term an “ageless generation” – people who may maintain biological youth and activity levels longer than previous generations. “We’re aiming to add 20 extra healthy years to your life,” Su stated in interviews, emphasizing that their goal focuses on quality of life extension rather than immortality.
Comprehensive Biomarker Analysis
Generation Lab’s flagship product, the SystemAge report, utilizes blood tests to analyze 460 different biomarkers across 19 organs and systems, according to company documentation. The report provides a detailed breakdown of how quickly each part of the body is aging, with the stated goal of identifying health signals and potential problems before symptoms appear.
The test is currently available through more than 300 clinic partners across 18 countries, with the reported cost of $490 per test. Subscription options for regular testing are also available, though analysts note the current pricing may limit accessibility for broader populations.
Celebrity and Institutional Backing
Beyond the lead investment from Accel, the funding round attracted notable celebrity investors through their venture arms, including Steve Aoki’s Aoki Labs, NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo’s BYL Ventures, and actor Simu Liu’s Markham Valley Ventures. This brings Generation Lab’s total funding to $15 million since inception.
“Longevity’s going to be one of the biggest markets of our generation,” Accel partner Kerry Wang stated in interviews, adding that as people increasingly spend on longevity treatments, “there needs to be a trusted eval for longevity.”
Broader Implications for Public Health
Company executives have reportedly been considering the societal applications of their technology beyond individual consumers. “Imagine if everyone in the country took the test, we could have predicted issues like the Flint Water Crisis,” Suswal suggested, pointing to potential public health monitoring applications.
Dr. Conboy highlighted the non-linear nature of aging in discussions with reporters, noting that technological and societal advancements continuously reshape our understanding of longevity. She referenced historical context, observing that “100 years ago, 40 years of age was very old, people died then. Then, we invented antibiotics, sanitation, and then vaccines. And now we move on to the next breakthrough.”
Growing Longevity Market
The funding announcement comes during a period of increased interest and investment in the longevity sector, bolstered by cultural figures like entrepreneur Bryan Johnson and his “Don’t Die” philosophy. The industry has gained traction as people live longer lives and accumulate more personalized health data through wearables and other monitoring technologies.
Industry observers suggest that Generation Lab’s approach represents a shift toward predictive, personalized health monitoring rather than reactive medicine, aligning with broader trends in healthcare technology and preventive medicine.
